Brentwood Bay

Clean Up of the Bay

Clean-up of the Bay Saturday April 5 organised by Brentwood Bay Marine Community Society

The Marine Community has organised a clean up of marine debris and is looking for volunteers to assist.

Here’s the plan. The Marine Community has obtained two floating docks on one of which any marine debris, garbage or unwanted gear, can be placed. It is being moved around the bay to give all boats easy access to it. On Saturday April 5 it will be moved to the District’s Marchant Street wharf. The other dock will be used to move an abandoned skiff to the wharf. One of the Marine Community’s members owns dump trucks which will be used to transport all the materials from the docks to D and L Bins facility on Oldfield Road.

Volunteers can help in two ways. At 10.00am the materials need to be moved in wheelbarrows (loaned by Anglers Anchorage Marina and Portside Marina) along the wharf to the trucks. Second D and L Bins charges dump fees. The last clean-up cost the marine community over $1,000 in dump fees. Donations to help cover the costs would be very helpful.
Donations can be in cash at the site, or by etransfer to the Marine Community Treasurer, Samuel Saunders at samuel_saunders@outlook.com

Petra Allen and Michael Simmons from the SIPS Board of Directors met with Samuel, the Marine Community President, Roger Hebert and Vice President, Drew Woodyatt last Sunday and believe they are sincere in their efforts to improve environmental conditions in the bay and deserve support from SIPS.
