Dennis Coupland

Denis Coupland

The Saanich Inlet Protection Society and Peninsula Streams and Shorelines have commissioned a plaque in memory of Denis Coupland, to be dedicated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 9 in Verdier Park, next to the Brentwood/Mill Bay ferry dock. There is an irony here, as Denis will be turning in his grave at the thought of being remembered this way, but as the plaque says, he deserves to be remembered. If you have time on the 9th, you are welcome to come along.

The plaque reads as follows:

Denis Coupland passed away on February 18, 2023. He was a long-time resident of Central Saanich, and was a passionate environmentalist. He served for many years on the governing boards of the Saanich Inlet Protection Society (SIPS) and Peninsula Streams and Shorelines (PSS), and spent countless hours personally working on improving streams on the Saanich peninsula and on the shores of Saanich Inlet. He was a founding member of PSS, and was the treasurer for many years, and was principally responsible for the Saanich Inlet Roundtables, which brought together hundreds of participants and made significant changes to the health of the inlet. Denis was a model for everyone concerned with the environment of what he saw as his backyard. Would there were many more like him.
When you look at the waters of the inlet, or venture upon them, give a thought to Denis.

From his friends in SIPS and PSS
